Peonies are my favorite flower. I hear them pronounced different all the time. I can go to a florist and hear one pronunciation and then I'll go to a nursey and they say it a completely different way. I'm just curious about how you say it...
So do you pronounce it pee-OH-knee or pee-AH-knee?
pee-OH-knee or pee-AH-knee?
As a southerner, the slight drawl I have may make how I say "peonie" different than how I hear it.
ReplyDeleteI say "pee-oh-nee", and they are the most gorgeous flowers-especially when bunched together in a big vase.
I dont think it matters and I agree they are the prettiest flower EVER!
ReplyDeleteI say "oh" but I feel silly every time. They are gorgeous though!
ReplyDeleteLove these! I say pe-ah-nee, I think. It's hard to figure out how you say something when you're really thinking about it!
ReplyDeleteI say it with an 'oh' but I'm not sure how much you can count on my opinion with my accent!!
ReplyDeletePeonies are wonderful!!
Have a lovely weekend x
I love them to!! MY fav flower as well! i pronounce them pee-OH-knee
ReplyDeleteI say pe-ah-knee. Not even so much of an ah as an uh..pe-uh-knee. But then again, I'm from rural South Carolina and a lot of words get botched so I'm certainly no authority on how to pronounce something ;-)
ReplyDeletelol i have no idea, but they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI've always said pee-OH-knee, but who cares. You can pronounce your favorite flower however you want to! tom-A-toe; tom-AH-toe. = )
ReplyDeleteThey are really gorgeous flowers!
hm actually I think I say it both ways because I never know which way is correct! :)
ReplyDeleteI had pink-tipped, white peonies in my bridal bouqet last summer...they are such gorgeous flowers!
Pee-ah-nie! I just havd this conversation yesterday and decided it didn't matter either! This is my favorite flower, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Southern Lady, I've got the drawl thing going on too. :) Those are the MOST gorgeous flowers, however they're pronounced!
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious because I just had this conversation with D the other day. I say OH. What do you say?

ReplyDeleteI love pee-oh-nee's ; )
ReplyDeleteI think they smell sooo good, if I could go back in time I would have had them in my bridal bouquet!!!
i have never heard i pronounced "pee-ah-nee." Anyways, I love them, however you pronounce them!
ReplyDeletepee-ah-nee
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm taking the SATs. Is there a right answer haha?
You made me go to dictionary.com where they say it aloud for you. It says pee-uh-nee, which is what I've been saying, but after your post, I was second guessing myself. Brian calls it my "panty flower", because he doesn't know how to say it either.
ReplyDeleteI say "those pretty flowers I don't know how to pronounce"
ReplyDeleteI say pee-uh-nee. Either way they are so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! And I found this post SO funny! My Hubby and I were just talking about this the other day. He says it "pee-oh-knee" and I say it more like "pee-eh-knee". Either way, my fave flower!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Kimberly
