Choo Choo, Jack is Two!

We wanted to keep Jack's party pretty simple this year. With both of our families in the same town, we decided to travel the three hours home for his party. I debated on several different themes and finally chose trains. Jack loves to ride the train at the zoo, and enjoys reading books about trains and playing with trains. I knew he would be excited! I also already had a train invitation that I had made for a good friend's son last year. All I did was change the colors out to be red, white, and blue. Choosing the same color theme from his first birthday made everything really easy. I already had all of the decor!We ordered pizza, had salad and watermelon, and a cookie cake.

It's hard to get a good picture of a busy (almost) two year old!

My nephew, Mason, had a birthday party earlier in the day and I guess Jack was paying attention to him blowing out his candles, because as soon as the candles were lit and we starting singing, he started blowing them out!

My PaPa made this train for my little brother and I love that I got to use it for Jack's party.

Jack preferred painting his body and hair more than the train. Silly boy. I kept wiping him down and then I would turn around and he was trying to paint himself all over again.

We tried to get a family picture, but Jack wanted to go outside and did not want to sit still for a picture. He decided to pretend he was sleeping instead of smile.

Finally, a smile! Just not in the right direction. Haha!

It was such a fun evening! I'm hoping to do something special with him on his birthday (Wednesday), but I'm so happy we got to celebrate our sweet boy with a lot of our family this weekend!

Rx Sunglasses

I had lasik in college and it was life changing! It was absolutely amazing to roll over in the morning and see the alarm clock clearly. Then, along came Jack. I'm totally blaming pregnancy for my vision problems. I squint a lot, because I refuse to wear my glasses full time. I definitely need them on when I'm driving and trying to find a place that I'm not familiar with--as in I can't read the street signs! I finally bought a nice pair of prescription sunglasses a few months ago after lamenting about the price. With a toddler who likes to grab at my glasses and who likes to climb and explore all over the front seats of my car, I was worried about spending a lot of money on something that could be so easily broken. Then, I was contacted by Firmoo.

Firmoo's aim (aka mission statement) is "Vision and Fashion the Frugal Way." I love that! They were kind enough to send me a pair for free, but their prices are extremely affordable with most being $39!

The one problem I have with ordering glasses online and not being able to try them on first, is I have a small, narrow face. Most glasses look huge on me, including all the cute, cheap ones from Target. Woe is me.

They are a little big for my face, but will be perfect for driving around town and for the lake or beach. At $39 I also won't be paranoid about losing them on vacation or a little boy breaking them.

Firmoo made ordering the glasses extremely easy and provided clear instructions on how to enter in my prescription. They also offer a photo upload service, where you can "try" on the glasses. This company definitely meets it's mission statement!

our vacation--last november

I thought June would be a good time to recap our November vacation. :)

In Ty's residency program, they alternate getting either Thanksgiving or Christmas off and you take the entire week off. This past year Ty had Thanksgiving off and we decided to make a little trip before heading to our hometown to Thanksgiving. Ty's sister and brother-in-law moved to Houston a year or so ago and we had never had a chance to visit them. We decided to drive to Houston to see them and then drive on to Galveston to spend some time. I found a great condo to rent on VRBO and we were so excited! Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate! We experienced temperatures in the 30s and 40s, and constant down pours. Not quite what we had in mind. The week after we left, Galveston experienced temperatures in the low 70s. We still managed to have a good time.

Jack had a blast at Ikea. Ty took a video of Jack running and hiding in the warehouse area of Ikea and we still love to watch it. He just laughs and laughs in the video and it is the sweetest sound!

There are way too many pictures of our condo and the resort lobby on here, but I loved the decor and overall feel of both.

Jack loved the beach and tried several times to run right into the water.

The morning we left was the first time we saw the sun on our trip. The weather had cancelled family beach pictures I had set up with a photographer, but I was determined to make it down to the beach to at least take some self-timer photos. It was so cold! We literally threw our coats on the ground, snapped a few pictures and bundled back up.

We hope to take Jack to a much warmer beach later this summer!
