catching up on random thoughts

I returned from a work trip in DC this afternoon and I'm definitely feeling the effects of being pregnant and traveling. It was a stressful week here at our house. Ty dropped his phone in the water and after trying to get it fixed he has resorted to using my old iPhone. Unfortunately, his computer crashed a couple of months ago taking all of his backed up iPhone data with it and we didn't realize that the phone data hadn't been recovered until this happened. Poor guy. An iPhone becomes a resident's life line and he has been a little lost. Ty's grandma passed away this week and her funeral was Saturday. I was in DC on business and unable to attend with him. We know she is in a better place, but it doesn't make things any less sad. Ty was supposed to work at the hospital all weekend, but luckily was able to get things moved around so he could be with his family.

After triple checking to make sure my phone was backed up I realized I had several pictures I had never blogged about.

  • I'm in love with my new orange wallet!

  • Before we found out what we were having my mom texted these two pictures of my nephews and they just made my heart melt. It made me want a little boy!

  • I must be hormonal if dirt and trash trucks warm my heart!
  • A month ago I attended a baby shower to celebrate Whitney and her baby boy, Ezra. We had high tea and it was delicious! (I stole a couple of these pics from Whitney's blog.)

My love language is gifts. I love to purchase something special for those I love, I love to see all the gifts being opened at showers, and I love to see what people purchase as gifts on blogs. I bought Ezra these paper suitcases from Paper Source. The top one contained a personalized burp cloth and bib, and the bottom one held a book for Ezra and big brother book for Levi.

  • I found a great seller on etsy that makes high quality burp cloths. They are thick and everything is sewn really well. I've used her a lot lately for gifts.
  • I feel like Spring has come and gone here, since we are experiencing 90 degree temps. We did enjoy seeing our tree bloom! I wish it could stay like that for months.

  • I may have a slight obsession with stripes for my boy!

I found these socks at Target the other day and couldn't resist!

Bark in the Park

My weekend started early Friday afternoon. I had lunch with Chesley and then decided not to go back to work. The weather was great and Ty was sitting at home doing nothing and I wanted to join him. My afternoon meeting had been canceled, so I figured why not.

Ty and I took Nuts to the park to enjoy the sunshine.

Jane and I went to see a late afternoon showing of Water for Elephants. We both thought the movie did the book justice. I hardly ever say that about books turned into movies. If you haven't read this book, you should.

Saturday night we went to Bark in the Park. Our minor league baseball team allows dogs to attend games on certain nights. I have been wanting to take Nuts and a coworker of mine had extra tickets. We were afraid that the game might get rained out, but the weather was perfect.

Nuts did a great job and sat on my lap through the whole game. However, we did have one minor problem. Nuts hated Hornsby, the mascot. He barked and barked at this blue cow. Nuts doesn't bark very often, so you know it is serious when he does. Poor guy just didn't want the blue cow in his line of vision. It was hilarious!

He had our whole section laughing at his pathetic, little bark. It was our first game in the new stadium and we can't wait to go back.

We enjoyed a very non-traditional Easter Sunday. We went to church, had Bueno for lunch, worked out, watched Despicable Me and lounged. We missed being with our families, especially all the little ones, who I'm sure had a great time hunting eggs. We've already been home a couple of times in the last month or so and we will see everyone in a couple of weeks for Ty's graduation, so it just didn't make sense to make the drive down there. There is always next year.

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!

You may be wondering...

...what Nuts was up to while we were in Atlanta. {I'm sure you were all about to e-mail me asking about him. haha.}

I was so grateful that Chesley and her bf, Lane kept him. Nuts loves Chesley and Chesley loves Nuts, so it worked out perfectly.

They took Nuts to Utica for Summer's Fifth Night, aka concert in the park.

They even treated him to Frosty Paws, doggie ice cream.

I unpacked Nuts' bag when we got back and discovered a bag of treats they had picked up for him. Spoiled little dog.

We are going on vacation soon and Nuts will be staying with my parents. Poor guy is going to think we have abandoned him with all the traveling we are doing this summer.

What happens when I'm away

I was in San Francisco last week for work. I tried working on a blog post last night, but it turns out I have used all my photo storing space. Thankfully, some of my twitter friends told me about flickr. And I will be up and running soon!

I think having iPhones is an investment into our marriage. Seriously, Ty never used to text me before getting his iPhone and picture messaging--forget it. Now, we send each other pictures and texts all the time.

He sent me several pictures last week while I was on my trip that made me laugh out loud. What I'm about to show you did not make me laugh. It made me so sad.

A couple of years ago Ty bought Nuts a toy squirrel. It is the only toy that he has never torn up. I think it is because Nuts knows that Ty picked it out for him all own his own. I think he realized that is a big deal and therefore the squirrel became his special toy. The dog doesn't answer when we call his name, but say squirrel and he goes running through the house to find it so he can play.

So needless to say, I was very sad to see this picture.

And this picture.

But when I came home on Saturday the squirrel was in perfect shape. WHAT???
Ty, who is on a general surgery rotation, had performed a miracle on the squirrel, complete with hospital grade sutures.

You Throw Like a Girl

I was not blessed with much coordination. I can't ever throw things where I intend for them to go and catching something--forget it! I am always throwing Nuts' toys into walls, Ty's head, and onto the other couch by accident. We have a dimmer light switch in our living room. Below the dimmer is a push button to turn the light completely off. The other day I threw one of his stuffed toys and hit the button and turned off the lights. I couldn't do that on purpose if I tried a million times.
Tonight I was not so lucky. I was standing near that same light switch and throwing his toy down the hallway. Well, I was getting tired of playing so I threw it really, really hard. I wanted it to go all the way down the hall and into our bedroom so that it would take him longer to come back. (And maybe wear him down a little.) So I threw it really, really hard and right as my hand was coming down from the throw, SMACK, right into the sharp corner of the wall. I, of course, screamed pretty loud. It wasn't so much out of pain as it was a cry for attention. I wanted Ty to come running out of his black hole (I mean office) and dote on me. I told him I thought it was broken and then I realized that I could bend it. Drama Queen! Ty doted on me long enough to get me an ice pack and some ibuprofen. I guess I should be pretty happy with that--it is finals week and I will survive!
I am typing this pretty slowly and alternately icing my thumb. It's cut and swollen. OUCH!
And Nuts successfully retrieved his toy and is trying to eat the ice pack. Wonderful! He gets so hyped up on rainy days, because he doesn't get to spend much time outside. He hates getting wet. Ah the hazards of throwing like a girl!

Weak Stomachs: Be Forewarned...

....Do NOT read this if you have a weak stomach! My poor little puppy was very sick this morning. I was on the couch eating my cereal when he jumped up on the couch and laid across me. His poor body was shivering like crazy. He slid off of me and threw up beside me. Luckily, the blanket that I had out last night was still on the couch and that is what he threw up on and not the couch. I threw him outside, finished my cereal in the kitchen and then felt sorry for him because it was so cold outside so I let him back in. As I am letting him back in I can hear Ty's alarm going off. Every morning when Ty's alarm goes off, I let Nuts get in bed with him. Ty hits snooze a million times, so Nuts gets to snuggle with him while Ty ignores his alarms.
I opened the bedroom door and Nuts jumped on the bed and dove under the covers. I proceed to tell Ty that he threw up this morning and if he hears Nuts heaving that he better throw him on the floor. About 30 seconds later Ty is YELLING! I ran back there to see the covers thrown off the bed and throw up all over the sheets AND all over Ty! EW!! I had to run out before I got sick. It was so gross. I felt so bad for Ty! When I let Nuts back there I didn't really think he would get sick again. Needless to say it was a bad morning at our house!
